The processes of voluntary subscription to newsletters found on the Internet are all different. Review of some good practices that will help you not to annoy your potential subscribers:
- Provide a simple form on your homepage asking only for the e-mail address;
- After validation of the form on the homepage, display a confirmation message directly and provide an optional form requesting additional information;
- Do not link the subscription to the newsletter to a membership status which would require a password and a lot of other information;
- Send a welcome email to the newsletter within minutes of registration;
- In the html code, use standard field names (mail, name, firstname...) to enable auto-completion on the browser side;
- Ask only for the minimum information in the registration forms, i.e. name, first name, email, gender. If you want more information, create contests!
- Only ask for the date of birth if you are planning an interesting action to celebrate your members' birthday;
- Respect your (future) subscribers!
